And with the rise in nonprofit / corporate partnerships, they’re even more important. I’m adapting these principles to help nonprofits engage more effectively with individual donors and corporations, build long-term relationships, and secure sustained funding and true partnerships. My approach to any business relationship has always been about finding mutual value on a human level.

I also utilize all tools, including AI, to do intense research to find potential partners that have shown a passion for your type of cause.

  • Corporate business development skills, especially in a high-value B2B environment, focus on critical areas that impact the journey shared by fundraising and development teams and their prospects and donors. These include deep connecting, relationship building, qualifying, questioning, collaborating, providing value, telling stories, uncovering motivations and building something together. This becomes even more pronounced as more nonprofits are understanding the need to develop corporate partnerships, which is a very different process than working with individual donors.
